Challenges

Challenges

Complex domain, simple expectations

Investors expect clarity and speed but the product must represent complex legal, regulatory, and financial structures without overwhelming users.

Multi-role product

The platform must support several personas (high-net-worth investors, family offices, asset managers, and platform administrators) with different needs and permissions.

Trust & credibility

Given private markets and bespoke deals, users need to quickly assess risk, counterparty credibility, legal docs, and track record. Visual trust signals and transparent structuring are essential.

Cross-border friction

KYC, tax, currency conversion, and regulatory disclosures differ by region — the UX had to reduce friction while keeping compliance intact.

Parity across desktop and mobile

Desktop is used for deep analysis and deal structuring; mobile must enable quick deal alerts, watchlists, and lightweight approvals — both need consistent mental models.

Research & Data Points:

Research & Data Points:

We ran a focused research program to surface product priorities and pain points:

Stakeholder workshops with DollarBull's investment, legal, and engineering teams to understand deal flows, compliance bottlenecks, and revenue streams.

User interviews with 18 participants across target personas (investors, asset managers, and operations) to map decision points and information needs.

Analytics and support review of existing product logs and query patterns to identify frequent failure paths (document access, wire instructions, and onboarding dropouts).

Competitive & precedent review of fintech, private markets platforms, and data rooms to identify patterns for trust signals, term presentations, and commitment flows.

Regulatory checklists reviewed with DollarBull’s compliance team to translate legal minima into clear UX requirements (KYC, tax forms, disclosures).

Discovery & Strategy

  • Synthesised research into persona archetypes, decision journeys, and a prioritized feature roadmap.

  • Defined core success metrics: onboarding completion, time-to-commit, document retrieval time, and DAU/MAU for investor alerts.

Information Architecture:

Information Architecture:

  • Created a role-based IA separating: Market (deal discovery & watchlists), Deal Room (term sheet, docs, cap table), Portfolio (holdings, performance), Compliance (KYC/tax), and Admin Tools.

  • Designed navigation patterns to keep analysis flows (deep dives) on desktop and quick-action flows on mobile.

Wireframing & Interaction Design

  • Rapid low-fidelity flows to validate deal discovery, commitment, and document signing journeys.

  • High-fidelity components for financial tables, term breakdowns, and downloadable/legal doc viewers.

  • Desktop interactions optimized for multi-panel analysis (filter + details + docs). Mobile prioritized compact summaries, pushable actions, and progressive disclosure.

Prototyping & Validation

  • Interactive prototypes for both desktop and mobile used in moderated sessions with investors and operations teams.

  • Usability testing focused on: reading a term sheet, locating legal documents, simulating an investment commitment, and completing KYC + bank linking.

The Solution & Key Design Decisions

The Solution & Key Design Decisions

We solved the product’s complexity with a unified, role-aware design: a single “Deal Room” acts as the source of truth (headline economics, risk checklist, track record and a persistent document pane) while adaptive views tailor actions and information for investors, asset managers and admins; transparent financial breakdowns and interactive simulators let users preview net outcomes and test scenarios; onboarding is staged with inline validations to reduce dropouts; consistent components and microcopy across desktop and mobile preserve mental models; and visible compliance affordances (badges, audit trails, downloadable legal docs) build trust while keeping the interface uncluttered through progressive disclosure.
